This is one of the most important sacred self-care practices you can do for yourself.

Feeling Your Feelings

What does feeling your feelings mean?

Feeling your feelings means checking in with your emotions and then taking mindful action to address them. This process involves recognizing your emotions, identifying the triggers, and making sense of those feelings so you can better manage your emotions.

For most of us, the last thing we want to do is feel our feelings, especially those uncomfortable or negative emotions because feelings can hurt. We protect ourselves by blocking those emotions and shoving them back inside or distract ourselves from them which can cause anxiety, depression, or sudden outbursts.

We live in a society that resists and fears emotions. We block and avoid our emotions because acknowledging them is often perceived as a weakness.

What happens when we block our emotions?

When we don’t recognise our emotions it can have a significant effect on both our physical and emotional health.

1. Avoiding our emotions actually makes them stronger.
2. Setting negative feelings aside leads to physical stress on our bodies.
3. Mental fatigue
4. Tension within the relationship
5. People who avoid recognising their emotions pursue some form of distraction like alcohol or substance abuse to give them a temporary lift or escape.
6. Shorter lifespan/Early death

How to feel your feelings?

Part of taking care of ourselves and our health requires healthy processing of emotion.

1. Identify the emotion.
2. Acknowledge it.
3. Sit with it. Feel it.

Feeling our feelings and acknowledging our emotions is the strongest thing we can do. When we recognise our feelings, we will learn how to manage and resolve them. This in turn will bring us peace, clarity, and it will brighten our lives. Remember that feeling your feelings takes practice, so be patient with yourself!

Have you ever felt betrayed in your life? It can feel heartbreaking. Have you ever then bought some awareness to this pain by asking yourself where do I betray myself?

Where do you betray yourself? This is an important question to ask oneself.

What is Self-Betrayal?

Self-betrayal is considered a self-destructive act; It occurs when we do things that we know are harmful to us like addictions and bad habits. Denying our needs, living a life that is far below our potential, and compromising our values are all considered forms of Self-betrayal.

We also betray ourselves the moment we lose connection with the truest version of ourselves.

What Does Self-Betrayal look like?

We betray ourselves when we:

1. Refuse to voice our opinions for fear of being rejected.
2. Sacrifice our needs to keep a relationship.
3. Look for validation from others.
4. Stay in a toxic relationship because we don’t want to be alone.
5. Speak harshly to ourselves.
6. Acting differently around other people
7. Compare ourselves to others.
8. Live in the past.

What Does Self-Betrayal Create?

1. Stress
2. Anxiety
3. Depression

How To Stop Betraying Yourself?

1. Love yourself.
2. Be kind to yourself.
3. Be honest with yourself.
4. Forgive yourself and let it go.
5. Prioritize your needs.
6. Say “No” when you feel like saying “no”.
7. Voice your opinions without being rude.
8. Do the things that make you happy.
9. Believe that you are adequate.
10. Accept yourself.

Remember that the most important relationship you have is with yourself, so make it a priority! Self-Betrayal is not an innate characteristic. It’s a bad habit that we can break if we put our minds to it.

Self-discipline has been a major theme for me this year. I believe self-discipline is a reflection of our self-love and this year I have chosen to bring awareness to this aspect of my life.

Why am I self-disciplined in some areas of my life and not others. Do you wonder this?

I also bring awareness to my habits as some are unconscious and I really would prefer that my unconscious is not running the show.

I have improved my daily habits by starting small like making my bed every day and actually enjoying it.

I feel like self-care is so important at the moment and choosing one daily habit to commit to as a start is a wonderful way to build on our self-love.

What self-care practice are you going to include in your day?

What Is Self-Discipline?

Self-Discipline is defined as one’s ability to renounce immediate satisfaction to accomplish long-term goals. It means taking control of your feelings, emotions, and actions despite discomfort and struggles.

A person with high levels of self-discipline is more decisive and doesn’t let their impulses dictate their choices.

Benefits of Self-Discipline:

1. Self-Discipline promotes inner strength and good character.
2. A Self-Disciplined person does not give up easily despite failures and setbacks.
3. Self-Discipline helps you stand by your decisions and not lose sight of your plans and objectives.
4. Self-Discipline helps you persevere through hurdles that try to hinder you from achieving your goals.
5. Self-Discipline helps you stick to your standards and not settle for anything less.
6. Self-Discipline is the best ingredient to be successful in life.
7. Self-Discipline helps you become the best version of yourself.
8. Self-Discipline helps you stay motivated even if you are not seeing any results.

How To Improve Self-Discipline?

1. Always consider the consequences of your action before doing them.
2. Do not give up easily despite setbacks and obstacles.
3. Start small, set some goals/plans, and make an effort to carry them out.
4. Eliminate all temptations and distractions from your surroundings.
5. Identify your weakness and own up to it.
6. If and when you stumble, forgive yourself and move forward.
7. Give yourself a reward when you accomplish your goals no matter how small and simple they may be.
8. Aside from giving yourself a reward, you can also penalize yourself when you made some poor choices to refrain from falling into cycles.
9. Find a motivation.
10. Create a consistent routine that will help you get ahead of bad habits.

Self-discipline is one of the most vital and useful skills everyone should have. It is a learned skill and not an innate characteristic. However, developing self-discipline takes time and requires practice and nurturing. Start with a goal, commit to it, and choose not to give up even if you slip.
